Establish Credibility with A Website

Updated: Aug 11, 2023

Creating a website for your business can be a great way to reach a wider audience and provide valuable information and resources to those who need it. One of the first things people do when learning of a business they’ve never heard of before is searching for it “on the web” to see if it’s legitimate. A website can help people learn about your business and give your audience faith in your legitimacy. In this article, I’ll outline the steps required to create a professional, user-friendly website for your business. Depending on your “tech-savviness” these steps may seem super easy, or you may be reading gibberish… I can help answer any questions! 😊

Step 1: Choose a domain name and hosting platform I hope I haven’t lost you yet, but the first step in creating your website is to choose a domain name and a hosting platform. Your domain name is the web address that people will use to find your website, so it should be memorable and relevant to your brand. For example, if you are a pediatric doctor’s office, and you’re a pediatric therapy office and you’re located in Orlando, you may choose a domain name like “orlandochildrenstherapy.com”. (Tip #1: It’s best to include your business name!)

Once you have chosen a domain name, you will need to find a hosting platform. A hosting platform provides the infrastructure that your website will run on, and there are many options to choose from. Some popular choices for hosting platforms include Bluehost, HostGator, and SiteGround.

Step 2: Plan the structure and content of your website Before you start building your website, it's important to plan the structure and content of your site. You should think about what information you want to share, who your target audience is, and how you want to present that information. For most any website, you may want to include sections on:

  • Services or products you offer

  • Educational resources, articles, or a blog on your industry (Including a blog lends to your expertise, passion, and legitimacy while improving your search engine optimization!)

  • Testimonials or reviews from clients or customers

  • Contact information and a way for people to get in touch with you

Step 3: Choose a website builder and design your website Once you have a clear idea of what you want your website to include, it's time to choose a website builder and start designing your site. A website builder is a tool that allows you to create a website without needing to know how to code. There are many website builders to choose from, such as Wix, Squarespace, and WordPress. When designing your website, keep in mind the following best practices:

  • Make sure the layout is clean and easy to navigate

  • Use high-quality images and graphics that are relevant to your brand

  • Ensure the site is responsive and works well on both desktop and mobile devices

  • Make sure the site is fast and loads quickly (Tip #2 – Hiring a graphic designer or website builder may be the best bet if you’re not the creative type… Hint Hint – I love doing this stuff😉)

Step 4: Publish and promote your website Once you have designed and built your website, it's time to publish it and start promoting it! You can publish your site by making it live on your hosting platform. To promote your website, you can:

  • Share it on social media (Don’t have one? A post on that later…)

  • Reach out to potential customers or clients

  • Write guest posts or articles for other websites in your industry (their website can lead others to your website!)

  • Advertise your website through targeted online advertising

In conclusion, creating a website for your business can be a great way to reach a wider audience and provide valuable information and resources. By following the steps outlined in this article, you can create a professional, user-friendly website that will help you achieve your goals. If you need help, please reach out!
